The Red Thread

This four meter long piece was inspired by regular visits to Hakoshima, a small island shrine in Japan. A shrine dedicated to the god of love, Aizen Myoo and the god of the ear. Endangered animals walk the line, connected by the red thread, heading towards to the island shrine. The thread is symbolic of the connection between soulmates and the clothing worn by the animals, a nod to their shared human characteristics. They travel towards the island to be heard: to plead for intervention. William Wordsworth’s poem, ‘The World is Too Much With Us’, pools at the bottom of the shrine, written almost 200 years ago as a warning or premonition of the future.
